[ Cape of Good Hope - Philatelic/Postal History ] circa 1738 Acting Governor Daniel van den Henghel Wrapper (158 x 84mm) addressed to him as 'Governor' (internal Cape) although he was never actually appointedas such filling the post of Acting Governor only after the retirement of de la Fontaine in August 1737 and the appointment of Swellengrebel in April 1739 (there was a disagreement among the Council members as to who had the better claim to the post), fine and scarce (Plate 10) Note: van den Henghel was not popular as Acting Governor and returned to his position as fiscal in the colony with the appointment of Swellengrebel. He remained in this post until his return to Holland inSeptember 1741.
