Tetradrachm signed by the master engraver Heracleidas, about 405-402 B.C. AR 17.18 g. Laureate head of Apollo facing, slightly turned l., hair falling in waves on both sides of the head; in field r., signature S. Rev. O Fast quadriga r., about to turn around a Ionic column [meta); the charioteer, wearing a long chiton and holding the reins with both his hands, the kentron with his r. hand, is crowned by Nike flying l.; in exergue, crayfish r. SNG ANS 1257 (these dies). Rizzo pl. XIV, 11 (obv., this die) and 13. Jameson Coll. 547 (this specimen). Very rare, of the highest artistic quality, a true masterpiece of greek coin engraving. Excellent old tone. Almost extremely fine
