cover 1861 (15 May) cover from Swellendam to Cape Town, bearing 1861 (Feb.) 1d. vermilion block of four, clear to enormous margins all round, tied by black triangular cancellations; cover, with some restoration at foot well away from the stamps and with part flap torn away, backstamped with red oval "SWELLENDAM/MY 15/1861" and "CAPE TOWN/MY 16/1861" datestamps. A great rarity. S.G. 13
A WONDERFUL "WOODBLOCK" MULTIPLE COVER
Note: Excluding the block of four containing the 4d. error se-tenant with three 1d. vermilion, only one other cover exists with a block of four 1d. vermilion; the cover offered above is by far the finer of the two.
