Fine American Colonial Revival Mahogany Tall Chest, late 19th century, in the Philadelphia Chippendale style, in two parts, the upper section with a scrolling broken-arch pediment centered by a pierced foliate-carved cartouche and flanked by flame finials, the case with a shell-carved drawer over three-over-two-over-three graduated drawers, the base with a pull-out shelf and a full-width drawer over three drawers, the lower central drawer with foliate and shell carving, the scalloped skirt centered by a carved shell, raised on cabriole legs with foliate carving at the knees and ball-and-claw feet, h. 95", w. 46", d. 24-3/8". Note: This present piece was bench made and exhibits unusually skilled cabinet work utilizing rose-head-style nails throughout its construction.
