The figures depicted in this preliminary study for The Saturday Evening Post are George and Sybilla Zimmer. Sybilla did not appear on the final cover, released March 17, 1945; however, she was subsequently featured, alongside George, on the magazine's well-recognized cover titled, The Gossips, on March 6, 1948. George Zimmer modeled for a total of seven Post covers. The present work hung on display on the wall of George Zimmer's game room, which hosted many a poker night attended by none other than Rockwell himself, as well as other famous Post artists such as George Hughes and Mead Schaeffer in Arlington, Vermont.
