About the object

The "Picture Gallery Bank" is unusual because it has two distinct functions. Firstly, like every other mechanical bank, the owner can save money inside of it. But it's second function served the didactic purposeof teaching the alphabet to small children. There are three windows on the front of the bank and a green dial which rotates images into those windows. In the window on the left appear the 26 letters of the alphabet; in the window at the top appear the 26 corresponding numbers for those letters; and in the window at the right appear pictograms that represent each letter. For example, "W" is the 23rd letter of the alphabet and it stands for "wolf ".\nMaterial: Cast Iron\nProvenance: Robert Brady Collection\nCondition: Pristine Plus, Very Bright, one of the nicest examples in existence
