RARE SALOR ENSI, Turkestan, circa 1800;

About the object

RARE SALOR ENSI, Turkestan, circa 1800;\n5 feet 10 inches x 4 feet 4 inches\n\nProvenance: A West Hampton, New York Family\n\nOther Notes: This recently discovered Salor Ensi is the most singular of the few know and published examples. The outside border and lower alem panel are unique. Likewise, the curled- leaf border flanking the central panel is distinctive. Other subtle design elements are introduced by this Ensi for the first time: the double rams head and ascending rams head design surrounding the upper and lower fields; the free standing birds in the quartered field; and the alternating direction of the curled-leaf motifs in the central panel. The color range, wool quality, and pronounced oxidation are exceptional. It is quite possible that this elegant and extremely rare Salor Ensi dates from the mid-18th century.\n\nSee Hali Magazine Issue #60, December 1991, for an in depth article about Salor Ensis.
