About the object

[ Silver Dollars - Coins - United States of America ] 1871 CC' Very Choice Brilliant Uncirculated. Prooflike. Possibly the finest known. A magnificent specimen of the lowest mintage Carson City Mint Silver Dollar. Only 1,376 were struck. This piece is lightly toned around the rims and has brightly reflective, fully prooflike fields with amazing flash showing. Any 1871`CC' Silver Dollar is a rare and desirable coin no matter what its grade. Most of the survivors known today grade only Very Good to Fine. The finest certified by either grading service is a 63, making this present specimen a definite candidate for finest known honors. This piece comes from our March, 1995 sale of the James A. Stack, Sr. Collection, where it was securely nestled in a series of outstanding Seated Dollars. Correctly described then as ``One of the Finest Known,'' we now feel even more strongly about the coin's quality and its place among the ranks of the very best specimens. {cp8}(SEE COLOR PLATE) Ex James A. Stack, Sr. Collection (Stack's, March 15, 1995, lot 214).
