1723/2 Wood's Hibernia Halfpenny. Martin 4.60-Da.1, W-12850. Rarity-2. AU-50 (PCGS). CAC. OGH. Rich olive and walnut brown patina greets the viewer from both sides of this wonderfully original example. Softness in the centers is largely due to the strike, which is well centered and bold to sharp elsewhere; there is little in the way of actual wear. Minor planchet roughness is seen under magnification, especially within the soft area at central reverse, but the surfaces are hard and frosty with no troublesome marks. High end for the assigned grade and sure to sell for a nice premium. Provenance: From the Emerald Coast Collection. Earlier from Heritage's Summer FUN Signature Auction of June 2008, lot 5005. CAC Stickered Population (all die marriages of this overdate): 6 in all AU grades; 1 in all Mint State grades. PCGS# 183. NGC ID: 2ATF. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
