1723 Wood's Hibernia Farthing. Martin 3.14-Bc.6, W-1230. Rarity-6. MS-63 BN (PCGS). 55.6 grains. Nice warm olive-brown patina on both sides. Well struck, particularly at central reverse, where we note an uncommon fullness to the detail of the seated figure and harp. Surfaces a trifle rough in places but not really disturbingly so, otherwise the quality approaches Choice Mint State. This is far and away the finest example of this rare die pairing that we can recall handling; Syd Martin's graded EF Details--Environmental Damage at PCGS ahead of our December 2023 Collectors Choice Online Auction offering from his extensive collection. Provenance: From the Emerald Coast Collection. Earlier ex Virgil Brand; F.C.C. Boyd; John J. Ford, Jr.; our (Stack's) sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part VII, January 2005, lot 59. PCGS# 176. NGC ID: F7HN. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
