1723 Wood's Hibernia Farthing. Martin 3.3-Bc.3, W-12500. Rarity-5.

1723 Wood's Hibernia Farthing. Martin 3.3-Bc.3, W-12500. Rarity-5. Silver. VF Details--Damage (PCGS). While this variety appears relatively frequently in silver, nearly every silver specimen shows appreciable wear, as here. Of the five pieces we've offered since 2016, and prior to the present sale, the finest was a PCGS AU-58+, with the others ranging in grade from EF-40 to AU-58. For the other silver varieties of this issue, examples tend to come in higher grades. Returning to Martin 3.3-Bc.3, the present example is not only moderately worn, but shows digs and scrapes at right and lower left obverse, right and upper left reverse - the explanation for the PCGS qualifier, and suggesting that the coin was caught in a vice or gear at some point. Rich pewter-mauve patina with virtually all major design elements boldly rendered. PCGS# 179. NGC ID: F7HP. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
