1724 Wood's Hibernia Farthing. Martin 3.9-D.1, W-12600. Rarity-4. AU-53 (PCGS). Much nicer than the AU-53 assessment from PCGS might imply, this piece is overall boldly defined in the presence of light wear. The strike is well centered, so even the border denticulation is fully appreciable around both sides. Toning is attractive with dominant orange-brown enhanced by overlying olive-copper, the latter color boldest and most extensive in and around the central reverse. There is a trivial flan flaw on King George's neck, another in the left reverse field, but these are hardly distracting during in-hand appreciation. No marks or other post-production blemishes of consequence are seen. Provenance: From the Emerald Coast Collection. Earlier from Heritage's sale of the Oak Collection of American Colonial Coinage, September 2005 Long Bach Signature Auction, lot 74; Heritage's sale of the Liberty Collection of American Colonial Coinage, Part III, May 2008 Long Beach Signature Auction, lot 1856. PCGS# 187. NGC ID: F7HS. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
