1787 Massachusetts Half Cent. Ryder 4-C, W-5940. Rarity-2. MS-63 BN (PCGS). This Ryder number is among the more frequently encountered in Mint State for the 1787 Massachusetts half cent, and the present example would do especially well in a high grade type set. Its lustrous, satiny surfaces are warmly toned in olive-copper and display plenty of good gloss. There are hints of lighter orange-brown nestled among some of the peripheral letters, more so on the reverse, which reveal where original mint color was last to fade. Smooth, choice planchet with a well centered, otherwise sharp to full strike that comes up just a bit short on the shield at central reverse, although the denomination HALF CENT is complete and fully legible. A really nice piece that is sure to see spirited bidding. Provenance: From the Emerald Coast Collection. PCGS# 296. NGC ID: 2B22. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
