1787 New Jersey Copper. Maris 63-s, W-5375. Rarity-2. Sprig Above

1787 New Jersey Copper. Maris 63-s, W-5375. Rarity-2. Sprig Above Plow, Bottom Stars Distant. Large Planchet. VF-35 (PCGS). SHI DS1. A handsome warm olive-copper example with a few glints of lighter color here and there. The planchet is choice and has taken a well centered, boldly executed strike; the only mentionable softness is confined to the centers and is of no consequence at the assigned grade level. The surfaces are microgranular, also of no consequence, and the only mentionable marks are a trio of tiny nicks in the field above the plow handles, dull mark above the end of the plow beam, small dig in lower field off end of left sprig. Provenance: From our sale of the Warwick Collection of U.S. Colonial Coins, assembled from the 1930s through the 1960s, November 2024 Showcase Auction, lot 8556; our June 2025 Showcase Auction, lot 1286.
