"1788" (ca. 1945) Massachusetts Cent. "Evans" (Evanson) Restrike. Breen-972. Copper. MS-67 RD (NGC). A bright red Gem, struck for Massachusetts coin dealer Henry Evanson in the late 1940s. Evanson ran Tatham Stamp and Coin in Springfield, Massachusetts. Walter Breen got his name wrong in the Encyclopedia (1988), which is why many still persist in calling these "Evans" restrikes despite that being erroneous. Provenance: From the Winslet Collection. PCGS# 595586. Click here for certification details from NGC.
