1788 Connecticut Copper. Miller 16.1-D, W-4595. Rarity-3. Draped Bust Left. VF-35 (PCGS). A satiny, generally hard and tight example with handsome autumn-orange brown patina delivering strong originality. Original planchet roughness remains at centers, although it blends quite nicely into the details of the effigy and seated figure, a few other tiny planchet scattered about require magnification to discern and are in no way distracting. The strike is fairly well centered, softness most significant at the letters EC in CONNEC and LI in LIB. Several die breaks are noted for the reverse, the die being in an advanced state of failure when this piece was struck, though these cracks would become more developed before the die was taken out of use. Provenance: From the Emerald Coast Collection. PCGS# 409. NGC ID: 2B3D. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
