1795 Flowing Hair Half Dollar. O-113a, T-14. Rarity-3. Two Leaves, A/E in STATES. VG-8 (PCGS). CAC. Tompkins Die Stage 5/2. This is as nice a Flowing Hair half dollar at the certified VG grade level that discerning collectors are likely to find in today's market. Both sides are dressed in original pewter gray patina with a hint of mauve, the obverse periphery further enhanced by deeper russet highlights. Impressively smooth for having seen such extensive commercial use, bold outline detail to all major design elements increases this coin's desirability for circulated type purposes. A nice 1795 O-113a, too, a readily attributable variety with a prominent obverse die lump under the end of Liberty's bust and the letter A in STATES punched over an erroneous E on the reverse. Provenance: From the Mack C. Chase Collection. PCGS# 6052. NGC ID: 24E7. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
