1804 Draped Bust Cent. S-266, B-1. Rarity-2. EF Details--Environmental Damage (PCGS). Breen Die State I. With rich, original toning in deep olive-copper and warmer medium walnut brown, as well as pleasing gloss to the texture, this piece presents uncommonly well relative to the details grade. Overall bold to sharp definition helps in this regard, as does a lack of sizeable or otherwise singularly distracting marks. Rough and granular overall to explain the PCGS qualifier, and probably smoothed or otherwise conserved to lessen the effects of environmental damage. The only known die marriage of the 1804 Draped Bust cent is well known as the second key in the series behind the 1799. It has a blunt 1 in the date and exhibits triple punching at the crosslet of the digit 4. On the reverse, the fraction 1/100 is large, the bar is long and slender, the denominator is skewed left, and there is a long spine from the end of the leaf before the letter C in CENT that points toward the letter O in ONE.
