"1813" (pre-1868) Captain James Lawrence, USS Hornet vs. HMS Peacock Medal. Original Dies. Julian NA-14. Copper, Bronzed. MS-63 BN (NGC). 65.0 mm. This original dies strike probably dates to before 1868, as new dies were prepared that year. A vertical obverse die break bisects the bust and, as well, this piece does not display either the droopy U in the engraver's name or the missing serif on the letter M in AMERI, both of which are diagnostic features of the 1868 replacement die.
