1837 Capped Bust Half Dollar. Reeded Edge. 50 CENTS. GR-15. Rarity-3. AU-55 (NGC). Ample underlying luster is present on both sides of this deeply toned, late die state GR-15. Golden-rose iridescence accents the centers and devices, while sea-green and blue tones are concentrated at the peripheries. Scattered marks and light wear are consistent with the grade, and the overall eye appeal is strong. Peripheral cracks on both sides are distinctive to the variety, but the easiest pickup points are clash marks extending upward from the bust and outward from the eagle's left wing. Jim Koenings Commentary: Koenings Newsletter #64 (12-15-24) rated this die marriage R-3 (201 to 500 known). The reverse is known to have weak dentils from 12 to 2 o'clock. Provenance: From the Jim Koenings Collection. PCGS# 6176. NGC ID: 24G4. Click here for certification details from NGC.
