1838-O Liberty Seated Dime. No Stars. Fortin-101. Rarity-3. AU-55 (PCGS). CAC. Boldly defined with softly lustrous surfaces toned in medium golden iridescence. This perennially popular issue is not only the first mintmarked dime in U.S. coinage history, but also the only New Orleans issue of the brief Liberty Seated, No Stars design type. Survivors are generally available to less discerning collectors, but the 1838-O is typically offered in the VG to EF range. Writing for the seateddimevarieties.com website, Gerry Fortin states that the 1838-O is: "A difficult date in AU or better with few Mint State examples known." Especially rare are those precious few premium Choice AU coins that have secured coveted CAC approval, as here. Provenance: From the Emerald Coast Collection. CAC Stickered Population: 14 in all AU grades. PCGS# 4564. NGC ID: 237T. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
