1851 Augustus Humbert $50. Lettered Edge. K-4. Rarity-5. 50 DC, 887

Premium 1851 Kagin-4 Humbert $50 Historic Gold Rush Era Issue The Only Gold CAC Example 1851 Augustus Humbert $50. Lettered Edge. K-4. Rarity-5. 50 DC, 887 THOUS., 50 on Reverse. EF-45 (PCGS). Gold CAC. CMQ-X. OGH. Here is a thoroughly PQ example of this legendary and imposing issue. Vivid honey-gold surfaces are enhanced by delicate, iridescent overtones of pinkish-rose that gravitate toward the protected areas around the design elements. Strike detail is soft at the central obverse high points, typical of the type, yet sharper elsewhere including a sharp and fully legible inscription around the obverse periphery, bold and clear 50 at central reverse. Scattered marks are noted, again commensurate with the type, but amazingly none warrant individual attention. Both the quality and eye appeal of this piece are far superior to what is typically seen for this type both in certified EF-45 and, indeed, at all lightly circulated levels of preservation. Sure to sell for a very strong premium to a discerning numismatist. Provenance: From Heritage's sale of the Klamath Mountain Collection, January 2012 FUN Signature Auction, lot 5145, where it realized $184,000. Gold CAC Stickered Population: just 1 in all grades. PCGS# 10208. NGC ID: ANH4. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
