1856 Liberty Seated Silver Dollar. OC-1. Rarity-2. EF-45 (PCGS).

1856 Liberty Seated Silver Dollar. OC-1. Rarity-2. EF-45 (PCGS). Minimally toned in pale golden-gray iridescence, this generally bold Choice EF example reveal blooms of frosty mint luster as the surfaces rotate under lighting. Unlike during the 1840s, when many Liberty Seated dollars exported returned to the United States in payment for American goods, virtually all of those sent overseas in the 1850s ended up in Asian markets. The route was either direct to the Far East, or through the London market to India, the end result in both cases the melting of the coins after their receipt as bullion. For this reason, a relatively generous mintage of 63,500 circulation strikes for the 1856 bears no relation to the rarity of survivors in numismatic circles. Provenance: From a Collection of American Silver Classics. PCGS# 6944. NGC ID: 24YV. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
