1864 Pattern Liberty Seated Half Dime. Judd-378, Pollock-446. Rarity-7-.

1864 Pattern Liberty Seated Half Dime. Judd-378, Pollock-446. Rarity-7-. Copper. Reeded Edge. Proof-65 BN (PCGS). CAC. The obverse and reverse designs are the same that the Mint used to strike regular issue 1864 Liberty Seated half dimes. Handsome olive-copper and rose-brown patina with underlying orange-apricot iridescence providing further visual appeal. A boldly struck piece with gently reflective fields supporting satiny motifs. As with the 1863 Judd-334 Liberty Seated dime in aluminum offered above, this 1864 Liberty Seated half dime in copper was deliberately struck for inclusion in off-metal Proof sets that included the fantasy 1864 quarter, half dollar, and dollar with the motto IN GOD WE TRUST. Only a dozen or so examples of Judd-378 are believed extant, per the uspatterns.com website. Provenance: From Heritage's Long Beach Signature Sale of June 2000, lot 7723, as NGC Proof-65 BN. PCGS Population: 1; 1 finer in this category (Proof-66 BN). CAC Stickered Population: 1; 1. PCGS# 60549. NGC ID: 29H3. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
