1866 Lincoln Memorial Medal. Reduction by J.S. and A.B. Wyon. Miller-1

1866 Lincoln Memorial Medal. Reduction by J.S. and A.B. Wyon. Miller-1, Cunningham 9-720S, King-252. Silver. MS-63 (NGC). 35.5 mm. Using their new reducing machine, the London firm of J.S. and A.B. Wyon made reductions of the Lincoln Memorial ANS medal in 7, 16 and 35-mm formats. Despite the fact that only six reductions were initially authorized Scott H. Miller (2015) reports that, "The Society eventually authorized the purchase of twenty-five sets of reductions for its members." This is the first silver reduction in the 35-mm size that your cataloger (JLA) can recall ever handling. It is originally and attractively toned and comes with an impressive numismatic provenance. Provenance: From the Charles Prioleau Collection. Earlier from our (Bowers and Ruddy's) sale of the Virgil M. Brand Collection, Part II, June 1984, lot 1364.
