1867 Pattern Liberty Seated Half Dime. Judd-586, Pollock-651. Rarity-7+.

1867 Pattern Liberty Seated Half Dime. Judd-586, Pollock-651. Rarity-7+. Copper. Reeded Edge. Proof-65 RB (NGC). The obverse and reverse designs are the same that the Mint used to coin regular issue 1867 Liberty Seated half dimes. Abundant rose-orange mint color remains to mingle with iridescent golden-copper patina. Regarding Judd-586 the uspatterns.com website reports: The regular dies trial piece. The copper examples were more likely deliberately struck for sale to collectors as part of complete sets. Four copper sets have been accounted for. T. Harrison Garrett had one, a mostly complete double set was apparently stolen from the Iowa State Historical Museum and a 4th set missing the half dollar was offered in Europe in 2022. Only five examples of this copper half dime can be accounted for today, including the two stolen from the Iowa State Historical Museum. Provenance: Ex Heritage's ANA Sale of August 1995, lot 8255, as PCGS Proof-64 RB; Superior's Pre-Long Beach Elite Coin Auction of January 2004, lot 3381, as NGC Proof-65 BN; Bob R.
