1868 Indian Cent. Snow-PR1. Proof-65 RD (CACG). This thoroughly PQ specimen reveals just a tinge of iridescent rose and olive tinting patina to otherwise medium mint orange surfaces. Both sides also possess bold contrast between reflective fields and lightly frosted motifs that suggest extra consideration for a Cameo designation might be rewarded. The 1868 is similar in overall rarity to the 1866, 1867 and 1869 Proof cents; the typical survivor has streaky color due to having been struck on planchets with improperly mixed bronze alloy. This coin is a noteworthy exception and will certainly catch the eye of astute bidders and advanced Indian cent collectors. CACG Population: 4; 0 finer. PCGS# 2293. NGC ID: 229L.
