Obv: William Barber's portrait of Liberty seated to the left with an olive sprig in her left hand, right hand supports a shield with ribbon inscribed LIBERTY in raised letters. A free-standing liberty pole with cap is behind the portrait, the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is around the border, and the date 1870 is below. Rev: The denomination 10 CENTS within a wreath of cotton and corn with the word STANDARD above. This stunning premium quality Gem reveals intensely vivid colors of emerald green, powder blue, antique gold and pinkish-apricot when the otherwise rose and copper-blue surfaces rotate into direct lighting. Somewhat more than a dozen of these are known, a relatively generous total by the standards of this series, but still a very limited total when viewed in the wider context of U.S. numismatics.
