1873 Liberty Seated Half Dollar. No Arrows. JD-1. Rarity-3. Close 3. High Date. (CACG). A handsome piece, more visually appealing than the assigned grade might imply. The surfaces are a bit subdued, but still show plenty of reflectivity to the finish beneath an overlay of smoky pearl gray and iridescent pink and blue patina. Softness of strike on the reverse might be surprising to some readers, but it is important to realize that U.S. Mint Proof coins during the 1870s were still being struck only once, by hand, on a screw press. From a mintage of 600 Proofs, and a pleasing example of the 1873 No Arrows half dollar. CACG Population: 1; 3 finer (Proof-66+ finest). PCGS# 6431. NGC ID: 27U8.
