1873 Pattern Liberty Seated Dime. Judd-1269, Pollock-1411. Rarity-7+. Aluminum. Reeded Edge. Proof-64 Cameo (PCGS). CAC. The obverse and reverse designs are the same that the Mint used to produced regular issue 1873 Liberty Seated dimes of the No Arrows, Close 3 type. This piece is silver-tinged with a sharp strike and nice field to device contrast. Although traditionally cataloged as a regular dies trial strike, the uspatterns.com website states that Judd-1269 was probably intentionally struck for distribution to contemporary collectors as part of off-metal Proof sets. The same source reports only two specimens of this aluminum strike: the PCGS Proof-64 Cameo offered here, and the Major Lenox R. Lohr specimen that most recently appeared in our Summer 2026 Global Showcase Auction, lot 5706, as NGC Proof-66. Provenance: Ex New England Rare Coin Auctions' 1979 American Numismatic Association Auction, July-August, lot 1334; Bob R. Simpson; Heritage's sale of the Bob R. Simpson Collection, November 2020 Signature Auction, lot 3229. PCGS# 399303. NGC ID: 2A84. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
