1882 Hawaii Plantation Token. Haiku Plantation. One Rial. Medcalf-Russell

1882 Hawaii Plantation Token. Haiku Plantation. One Rial. Medcalf-Russell TE-15. Reeded Edge. AU-50 (PCGS). Richly original in preservation and awash in crimson-copper patina. Some ancient surface build up in the protected areas around the design elements provides slight variations to the color, both darker and lighter, but in any case it hardly detracts from an otherwise smooth-looking appearance. Sharply defined overall and very attractive at the assigned grade level. All Hawaiian plantation tokens are scarce to rare. Many were denominated as a "rial" or 12 1/2 cents, as here, and this Haiku Plantation type is among the most desirable of all. PCGS# 600518. NGC ID: 2UBZ.
