1882 Pattern Liberty Head Nickel. Judd-1691, Pollock-1893. Rarity-6+. Copper. Plain Edge. Proof-64 RD (PCGS). OGH. Obv: Similar to the design that the Mint adopted for regular issue Liberty Head nickel production in 1883, although the stars around the border are arranged in a somewhat different manner. Rev: The No CENTS design that the Mint adopted for regular issue Liberty Head nickel production in 1883. Vivid rose-red surfaces are fully struck with just a bit of faint carbon precluding an even higher grade. This is the copper counterpart to the Judd-1690 specimen in nickel offered above, and it is a scarcer format for this type with about 20 or so specimens believed extant per the uspatterns.com website. Provenance: From our March 2021 Auction, lot 5626. PCGS Population: just 2 in all grades in the RD category, both at Proof-64. PCGS# 82096. NGC ID: 2AKD.
