1890 Morgan Silver Dollar. MS-65 DMPL (PCGS).

Very Rare Gem DMPL 1890 Dollar 1890 Morgan Silver Dollar. MS-65 DMPL (PCGS). An elusive finish for this Philadelphia Mint Morgan dollar issue, we note an uncommon degree of reflectivity in the fields of this boldly struck example. Wisps of pale silver and, over the left quarter of the obverse, champagne-gold iridescence are noted. Writing in his celebrated Morgan & Peace Dollar Textbook, Wayne Miller observes: The 1890-P [sic] has become very scarce in prooflike condition. Most specimens, although exhibiting deep mirror surfaces, are usually heavily bagmarked or lacking in brilliance. Many prooflikes exhibit a soft strike, particularly over Liberty's ear. A gem prooflike specimen will command a significant premium. As confirmed by current PCGS population data, these comments are as true today as when Miller penned them in the early 1980s.
