This 18th-to-19th-century Tibetan bronze kapala (skull cup) lid is an exceptional ritual object of Himalayan Buddhist art, now presented on a custom modern display stand. The domed lid is cast in high relief with segmented panels depicting wrathful deities, including a prominent central figure of a dakini or protector deity brandishing a ritual weapon while trampling a prostrate human figure within a ring of flames and stylized waves. The crown of the dome is surmounted by a prominent half-vajra (dorje) finial resting upon a lotus pedestal, while the outer rim is meticulously bezel-set with a continuous band of colorful, polished hardstone cabochons, including coral and turquoise. The underside reveals the aged, naturally oxidized interior cavity of the cast bronze, showing honest wear consistent with historical liturgical use. Comes with a stand. Dimensions: 8.5"W x 6"H Date or Era: 18th-19th Century Country of Origin: Tibet Weight: 4 lbs. Provenance: William Ashby Collection Condition Request Condition Report Good
