18th Century Italian School - View of Rome with the Roman Forum

Descriptio Oil on copper. Dimensions: 20 × 24 cm; with frame: 25 × 30 cm. A refined view of the Roman Forum, executed at the end of the 18th century. In the foreground, the imposing columns of the Temple of Saturn are visible, while in the background rises the Capitoline Hill, integrated into a composition enlivened by small figures. The scene favors an evocative and atmospheric vision of the ruins, intended to convey the monumental and timeless character of ancient Rome. The copper support lends a special luminosity to the painted surface and allows for a precise execution rich in chromatic nuances. This type of view was especially appreciated by travelers and collectors on the Grand Tour, constituting one of the most representative genres of European interest in Rome between the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th centuries. Provenance: Rome. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipping: no import duties apply within the EU. An export permit from the country of origin may be required.
