1917-D Walking Liberty Half Dollar. Reverse Mintmark. MS-66 (PCGS). OGH.

Exceptional 1917-D Reverse Mintmark Half Dollar 1917-D Walking Liberty Half Dollar. Reverse Mintmark. MS-66 (PCGS). OGH. Stunning and virtually unsurpassable premium Gem Mint State preservation for this conditionally challenged early date Walking Liberty half dollar issue. Softly lustrous surfaces are satiny in texture with subtle champagne-gold iridescence providing further visual appeal. Well struck with sharp to full detail throughout, both sides are uncommonly well preserved. In 1917 the mintmarks on half dollars were found on both the obverse and the reverse, though beginning in 1918 they were placed on the reverse only, remaining there through 1964 - the initial year of the Kennedy half dollar series. Though the 1917-D half dollar with reverse mintmark is somewhat more available in circulated grades than its obverse mintmark counterpart, in Mint State grades the reverse mintmark style is considerably scarcer and more desirable, especially in MS-65 and higher grades, as here. Those seeking an eye-catching and truly significant example need look no further than this near-top pop example at PCGS. Provenance: From the Mack C. Chase Collection. PCGS Population: 5; with a single MS-67 finer. PCGS# 6571. NGC ID: 24PS. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
