Pétrus 1947 – Pomerol Grape variety: primarily Merlot, with a small amount of Cabernet Franc in some older vintages. The 1947 vintage is generally considered a Merlot-dominant—or effectively pure Merlot—wine. Château Margaux 1947 – Margaux The situation here is quite different. Primary grape: Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. The precise blend of such an old vintage cannot be reliably determined using modern percentage standards, as the composition has evolved over the years. Cabernet Sauvignon provides: structure tannins cassis/black fruit longevity Merlot contributes a degree of roundness and softness, while Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot add complexity. 1947 was a very warm year for Margaux. Château Margaux itself describes the 1947 vintage as exceptionally powerful yet fresh, featuring an intense bouquet and very ripe fruit. According to the château, the tannins remain clearly perceptible and can impart a slightly dry sensation.
