1955 Jaguar XK 140 SE Roadster No reserve - Exceptional original condition - Desirable SE specification - Fully restored original engine - Numerous race participations between 1959 and 1961 - No reserve This car stands out on account of its absolutely remarkable original condition. According to its Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, it left the factory on 13 January 1955 in SE (Special Equipment) specification, with wire wheels and fog lamps, as well as the prized Laycock de Normanville overdrive. It was delivered on 21 January 1955 to the Jaguar distributor in New York, Max Hoffman, who supplied it to its first owner, R. Sturgis. Sturgis was a keen competitor in local motorsport events, as can be seen from the plaques on the dashboard for various rallies and gymkhanas held from 1959–1961. On 17 August 1973, the XK 140 was sold to Roger Anderson, from Ogden (Utah) and turned up again after more than 40 years, on 2 February 2016, when it was sold to Gullwing Motor Cars, a renowned specialist in New York. On 21 February 2018, it was bought by Rita Colpaert, who had it shipped to her home at Wetteren in Belgium, before selling it to Thierry Dehaeck to add to his collection. He promptly entered it in the prestigious Concours d’Élégance at Knokke-le-Zoute in Belgium, where it took second place in the ‘Preservation’ class. The car is supplied with numerous historical documents: the owner’s and service manuals, the instructions for the Trico windscreen washer, a brochure relating to the overdrive, a Jaguar price list in £, catalogues for the XK 140, a list of Jaguar dealers and agents, and a brochure for Lucas equipment and spare parts for 1955. In addition, however, to this documentation and its desirable specification, it is above all its exceptional state of preservation that makes this XK 140 Roadster so remarkable. Mechanically, it has been completely restored, but its ‘Peal Grey’ bodywork and red leather interior are 100% original, with a wonderful patina. The German experts FSP gave this car an ‘AA’ rating for its authenticity. It is exceedingly rare to come across a car of this age that has been so well preserved, a fact which will not be lost on enthusiasts.
