Style: Pedro Ximénez The 1955 Pedro Ximénez Solera Cincuentenario is one of the most distinguished sweet wines from Bodegas Pérez Barquero, the historic Montilla-Moriles producer founded in 1905. The designation “1955” refers to the Solera Cincuentenario, established to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the winery, rather than to a vintage year. This is a traditional solera wine made from 100% Pedro Ximénez grapes, which are sun-dried before the wine undergoes a long period of oxidative ageing in American oak casks. Exceptionally dense and dark in colour, the wine displays intense aromas of dates, fig bread, dark chocolate and liquorice. Despite its enormous concentration and approximately 430 g/l of residual sugar, it remains remarkably balanced thanks to its acidity and long ageing. The palate is rich, warm and silky, with an exceptionally long finish that avoids becoming heavy or cloying. The wine has received 99 points from Guía Peñín and 94 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. Parker praised its density and concentration, while noting that its only real challenge is tasting it alongside the even more concentrated 1905 Pedro Ximénez Solera Fundacional. Alcohol: 15% vol. Fill level: Neck Label condition: Excellent Capsule condition: Excellent Bottle size: 750 ml Bottler: Pérez Barquero, Montilla, Córdoba, Spain History of the wine / winery: Bodegas Pérez Barquero was founded in 1905 in Montilla and is one of the historic names of the Montilla-Moriles region. The 1955 Solera Cincuentenario collection commemorates the winery's 50th anniversary and comprises four expressions: Amontillado, Oloroso, Palo Cortado and Pedro Ximénez. Together they demonstrate the remarkable ageing potential and versatility of Pedro Ximénez in the traditional solera system. Drink or hold: Ready to drink and best appreciated now. Serve at room temperature or lightly chilled, preferably in a proper wine glass. Decanting is recommended. Excellent with fine pastries, dark chocolate, nuts, delicate desserts, foie gras and blue cheeses. Shipping method: Carefully packed in a protective wine shipping box. Insured shipping recommended.
