1960 Messerschmitt KR 200 convertible - High-quality restoration, superb condition - Desirable convertible model - Uniquely likeable - No reserve This Messerschmitt KR 200 was sold new in Switzerland, then exported to France, where it was sold to a M. Duval from Baizil, near Épernay. It was bought on 14 August 2014 by Thierry Dehaeck, who immediately set about a full ‘nut-and-bolt’ restoration, carried out in the Cady Car workshops in Ypres. The quality of the work can be judged from a file of bills and photographs, in which it can be seen that everything was restored: its body, Fichtel & Sachs engine and transmission, seats, equipment and interior fittings. This required 500 hours’ work. The result lives up to the efforts made: the Messerschmitt is in exceptional condition and is completely faithful to its original presentation, finished in beige with the lower body sections in red. “I had several models with the transparent ‘bubble’ roof”, Dehaeck told us, “but I only kept a convertible, the top-of-the-range version”. With this ‘Kabinenroller’ designed by Fritz Fend, he took part in several rallies run by the ‘Dwergautoclub’ in Belgium, a microcar club, and even organised a three-day road trip in April 2017 in his home area of Ypres. The car will be sold with various documents, including a reprint of the owner’s manual, a repair manual for the engine and a FIVA ID card. With its flamboyant shape recalling an aircraft fuselage, the car attracts only affectionate looks as it drives past. As well as providing its owner with sensations quite different from any other car, it will always be welcome at classic car meetings, where it will arouse visitors’ curiosity.
