1967 Volkswagen Samba T1 De Luxe Microbus

1967 Volkswagen Samba T1 De Luxe Microbus - Top-quality restoration to original specification - Highly sought-after 21-window version with sunroof - Supplied new in Austria, original specification recorded - FIVA ID card - No reserve This Volkswagen Microbus T1 left the factory on 16 June 1967 and was delivered new in Salzburg (Austria); it was a De Luxe model, the so-called ‘21-window’ version, due to its skylight windows. Finished in ‘Velvet Green’ with a ‘Pearl White’ roof and ‘Platinum’ upholstery, it had a full-length sunroof and the optional headlight flasher and Eberspächer heating. In 2011, the Microbus arrived in Belgium and its owner, Piet Haverbeke, from Rumbeke, a fan of the Microbus, embarked on a full restoration requiring 18 months’ work. The vehicle was completely stripped down, with the body taken back to bare metal, and everything was restored to its original specification by an enthusiast who knew the model well. The result is staggeringly authentic, as the renowned expert Gert Beets confirms: “This Microbus has been restored to its original specification, with the work carried out to a very high standard, and today it is in perfect condition.” At the time, Thierry Dehaeck was looking for a Microbus like this, but had been unable to find a good, unmodified example. One of his friends told him about this one and he therefore went to Haverbeke’s garage, where Haverbeke showed him the Microbus, albeit making clear that he was not ready to sell it but “could think about doing so”. Dehaeck came back several times and, after three months, persuaded the owner of the Microbus to sell it to him, while promising to take the utmost care of it and to make it available. On 27 May 2015, it joined his collection in Ypres. Since then, it has mainly been used for weddings in France and Belgium. Sold with a history file including photographs of its restoration, a certificate of origin from VW, the owner’s manual, sales brochures and a FIVA ID card, this splendid Microbus, in one of the most sought-after versions, will not fail to attract affectionate and admiring glances, while being eligible for the most renowned historic events.
