1970 Perelada

Pair of historic Cava Perelada Reserva Especial bottles – Richard Nixon (1970) and Gerald Ford (1975) Lot description Magnificent set of two old Spanish sparkling wine bottles from Perelada, Reserva Especial, commemorative edition related to the official visits to Spain by two Presidents of the United States: Richard Nixon in October 1970 and Gerald Ford in May 1975. They are two pieces of interest for collectors of historical wines and cavas, American presidential memorabilia, objects related to diplomatic history, and antique items from Spanish bodegas. Both bottles feature the classic Perelada design of the era, with dark glass, cream and gold toned original labels, the United States coat of arms, and red and gold decorative ribbons around the neck. On the front labels the names of the corresponding presidents are distinguishable, allowing clear differentiation of the two pieces. Contents of the lot * Quantity: 2 bottles. * Winery: Perelada, Cavas del Ampurdán, S.A. * Product: Cava Reserva Especial. * Origin: Spain, Catalonia. * First bottle: Nixon commemorative edition, associated with his visit to Spain in October 1970. * Second bottle: Ford commemorative edition, associated with his visit to Spain in May 1975. * Capacity: pending confirmation by inscription on the bottle; could correspond to the traditional 75 cl format. * Condition of contents: both bottles are presented full * Closure: retain the original coating visible on the necks * Labels: original period labels, with some signs of aging. * Decorative elements: red and gold ribbons preserved on both bottles. * Size: 32 cm tall and 9 cm in diameter each Conservation status Both bottles show an attractive antique patina. The front labels remain present and allow identifying the editions. The silver neck coatings and decorative ribbons are also preserved. The peculiarity of this lot lies in bringing together two references linked to two different presidential visits, separated by roughly five years. Richard Nixon visited Spain in 1970 and Gerald Ford did so in May 1975. Perelada has documentary records of its wines participating in official events of historical significance. The combination of both pieces allows presenting a small thematic collection related to the history of Spain–United States relations during the 1970s. Important notes They are sold as antique collectible bottles, not as beverages intended for consumption. Although stated as full, the organoleptic preservation of the cava after so many decades cannot be guaranteed. The exact year of production of the contents has not been confirmed: the dates 1970 and 1975 refer to the commemorated events, not necessarily the bottling date. Only the two described bottles and the elements that appear in the photographs are included.
