1972 Dino 246 GTS E Series - Rare original “Bianco Polo” color configuration (one of only 77 examples) - Delivered new in France in March 1972 by Charles Pozzi - Ferrari Classiche certified - Matching numbers: original engine and gearbox - Fully and comprehensively restored, with extensive documentation - Restored to its original factory-delivered specification - Original yellow headlights specific to the French market - A particularly desirable example of the Series E According to Ferrari’s records, chassis no. 05104 was sold new in France in March 1972 through the importer in Paris, Charles Pozzi. The Ferrari Classiche certification with the car states that it was delivered in the rare colour of ‘Bianco Polo’, which is believed to have graced only 77 examples of the 246 GTS. The interior meanwhile was finished in the more customary shade of ‘Nero’. The information we found with the help of Pozzi’s archives show that this lovely Dino was at one point exported and that it returned to France, from Iran, in 1987. It was still in its original colours, with the yellow headlamps specific to the French market, and its owner, the Lyon-based company Prestige Import, handled the formalities for its re-registration in France the same year. It was subsequently owned by M. Vermont, a discerning collector in northern France, and also the Ferrari dealer in Lille at the time, who repainted it in red and then sold in 1996 to a collector in the Oise, who sent it to Pozzi in in 1998 for the rear of the car to be repaired, following the start of a fire in the engine compartment. It is known that at this time, the car was repainted red and was acquired by a Belgian collector, who kept it until 2007, before selling it to a member of the Ferrari Club Deutschland, who had it certified by Ferrari Classiche in April 2009, before selling it at auction the following month. It was in 2019 that Guido Hommel bought the car, won over by its extremely rare original colour combination, as well as the fact that it still had its original engine and gearbox. He then decided to have the Dino completely restored, to return it to its original specification. The body was entirely stripped down, taken back to bare metal and repainted in its original colour, while the engine and gearbox were restored by a German specialist. All the work was documented with numerous photographs. The interior was also carefully restored and all the body seals replaced. Our inspection of the car showed that the work had been done to a very high standard, with well-aligned panels. We had the pleasure of slipping behind its wheel and were able to appreciate the rigour with which the running gear has been restored: the car is precise, its brakes powerful and well balanced. What can we say about the soaring notes of its magnificent and perfectly set-up V6, or the pleasure of using its gearbox ... Its original specification, Ferrari Classiche certification and the quality of its restoration make this 246 GTS an exceptional example, worthy of the attention of the most demanding of collectors.
