1978 Ducati 900 Super Sport

Among the most iconic sporting motorcycles of the 1970s, the Ducati 900 Super Sport represents one of the ultimate developments of the marque’s fantastic bevel-drive V-twin in road-going form. Its origins can be traced directly to Ducati’s landmark victory at the 1972 Imola 200, where Paul Smart and Bruno Spaggiari demonstrated the extraordinary potential of Fabio Taglioni’s desmodromic engine on the international stage. Introduced for 1975, the 900 Super Sport paired an 864 cc version of Ducati’s air-cooled, beveldrive V-twin with large Dell’Orto carburetors and a five-speed gearbox. By 1978, the model had benefited from several years of development while preserving the qualities that defined Ducati’s finest sporting machines: lightweight, rigid tubular frame, and responsive handling. The 900 Super Sport is unmistakably competitioninspired, with its clip-on handlebars, rear-set controls, gorgeous fuel tank, and purposeful half-fairing. These bikes produce an incredible sound and provide outstanding handling and highspeed stability. Produced in modest numbers and quite expensive when new, it was a specialized motorcycle intended for serious enthusiasts rather than the mass market. This lovely restored example is presented in its iconic early livery of blue and silver. It possesses all the character and soul that have made the 900 Super Sport one of the most celebrated and sought-after collector motorcycles in the world. car
