East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 19th century CE. A stoneware jar with a rounded shoulder and short, flaring mouth, coated at the upper body in a black glaze in the Henan blackware tradition. The glaze descends in an uneven boundary, giving way to a dark brown matte slip below. The base is finished with an unglazed, ring-form foot.
