(2) Spirit of St. Louis Aviation Photographs

Pair of vintage 10 x 4 inch photographs depicting Charles Lindbergh's Spirit of St. Louis. Each is stamped on the reverse from the John W. Underwood Collection and additionally marked "Salt Lake Copyright Dave Drummond." Underwood was an aviation historian, author and longtime collector of aviation photography whose extensive archive became an important resource for aviation research. The Spirit of St. Louis was the Ryan NYP flown by Lindbergh on his historic May 20-21, 1927 solo nonstop flight from Roosevelt Field, New York, to Paris, covering approximately 3,600 miles in 33 1/2 hours. Following the transatlantic flight, Lindbergh and the aircraft embarked on an extensive nationwide goodwill tour that helped fuel public interest in aviation. The two vintage photographs are matted alongside a modern photo print of Lindbergh. Estimate $200 - $400
