2001 Kloster Eberbach Steinberger Riesling Spätlese...

Kloster Eberbach represents more than 850 years of winemaking tradition. The historic monastery's monks recognized early on that the climatic conditions of the Rheingau region were ideal for producing exceptional wines from locally grown grapes. The Steinberg vineyard is historically closely intertwined with Kloster Eberbach. By 1239, the monks had acquired the entire vineyard through strategic land purchases. To protect their prized vineyard from grape thieves and wildlife, the monks built a wall up to five meters high and nearly three kilometers long. Completed in the 18th century, the wall has surrounded the vineyard ever since, much like the protective walls of a monastery. Today, the 30ha Steinberg vineyard is the oldest "Monopole" in the world. In the glass, the wine displays a deep straw-yellow colour with silvery reflections. The first swirl releases intense aromas of ripe lime, juicy lemon and delicate jasmine. Notes of white peach, candied citrus zest and a hint of wet slate add complexity, beautifully reflecting its origins in the legendary Steinberg vineyard. Estate bottled and shipped by Kloster Eberbach. Excellent condition of bottle, label, cork and capsule. Drink now or hold.
