The tannic texture is pure silk, supported by lively acidity and a clear salinity that give great freshness and drinkability despite the substantial structure. The finish is persistent, elegant, and clean. Food pairings: - Flavorful Italian first courses, such as tagliatelle with duck ragù or mushroom risotto. - Red meat mains with delicate seasoning, such as beef filet with green pepper, roasted white meats, and noble poultry. - Feathered game dishes like pheasant or pigeon. - Medium- to long-aged cheeses, including bloomy rind cheeses. Recommended glass: a large wine glass for big red wines (like Burgundy or Pinot Noir). Characteristics: The very wide belly and narrower neck facilitate wine oxygenation, guiding the complex aromas and delicate aromatic notes toward the nose. Serving temperature: 16–18 °C. Curiosities about the winery and producer: Vie di Romans winery, located in Mariano del Friuli and run with passion and rigor by Gianfranco Gallo, is considered one of the absolute references of Friulian and Italian viticulture. Gianfranco Gallo was among the first Italian winemakers to apply a meticulous vineyard-management approach, combined with the cru concept and extended aging before release. The winery is world-renowned for its extraordinary white wines with great longevity, but the same artisanal care and obsessive attention to terroir is also dedicated to red grape varieties. Vie di Romans Pinot Nero originates in vineyards on calcareous and gravelly soils in the Isonzo, capable of giving this noble international grape an extraordinary personality and a perfect balance between Friulian elegance and structure.
