Castello di Ama – Vigneto La Casuccia 2021 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG Lot of 3 bottles of 0.75 L – Limited and numbered production Vigneto La Casuccia is one of the most prestigious and representative wines from Castello di Ama, a historic estate located in Gaiole in Chianti, in the heart of Chianti Classico. Produced for the first time in 1985, La Casuccia is a true in-house cru, created through the selection of the best plots of the same-named vineyard and produced only in the vintages deemed up to standard. It is one of the emblematic wines of Castello di Ama’s philosophy and one of the most sought-after expressions of Chianti Classico Gran Selezione. The vineyard The La Casuccia vineyard is located at an altitude of about 470–495 meters, on predominantly clay-limestone soils. The different plots and exposures of the vineyard allow obtaining grapes characterized by concentration, freshness and elegance. The 2021 vintage is composed of 80% Sangiovese and 20% Merlot, a blend that combines the structure, freshness and elegance of Sangiovese with the depth and softness of Merlot. Vinification and aging The two varieties are vinified separately in stainless steel at controlled temperature, using indigenous yeasts and manual remontages. Maceration lasts about 26 days for Sangiovese and 25 days for Merlot. After racking, malolactic fermentation takes place in barriques. After the assemblage, the wine continues to refine for about 14 months in fine-grain oak barriques, of which about 40% are new. Organoleptic characteristics In the glass it presents with an intense, deep ruby red. The bouquet is complex and elegant, with aromas of red and dark fruits, accompanied by floral, mineral and spicy hints and with refined touches of tobacco and aromatic herbs. On the palate it is deep and structured, yet refined. The tannin texture is dense and elegant, supported by a beautiful freshness and notable persistence. It is a wine of great charm already, but above all endowed with excellent aging potential, capable of developing further complexity with a long bottle aging. Vintage 2021 – extremely limited production One of the most interesting aspects of this vintage is the numbered production, shown directly on the labels.
