Mandrarossa – Sentiero delle Gerle Etna Bianco 2022 Etna Bianco DOC – 100% Carricante Lotto di 6 bottiglie da 0,75 L – Vendemmia 2022 The Sentiero delle Gerle Etna Bianco 2022 is Mandrarossa's interpretation of the great white grape of Mount Etna, Carricante, grown on the southeastern slopes of the volcano on entirely volcanic soils. It is part of Mandrarossa's Etna Wines project and the “Storie Ritrovate” line, dedicated to rediscovering Sicilian territories, grape varieties and traditions. 100% Carricante and volcanic terroir The wine is produced from 100% Carricante, one of the most representative native varieties of Etna. The vineyards are located on the southeast side of Etna, on 100% volcanic soils, and are trained to guyot with spur pruning. The vineyard density declared by the winery is about 4,350 plants per hectare, with a yield of about 7,500 kg/ha. These conditions contribute to the wine's character that is typically fresh and mineral. Vinification and long aging in stainless steel The harvest typically takes place in the second half of September. After de-stalking, the grapes are pressed and subjected to soft pressing. For fermentation, only the very first fraction of the must is used. Fermentation, with selected yeasts, is particularly slow and lasts about 25–30 days at 12–15 °C. After fermentation, the wine is kept on its finest lees and ages for a substantial 13–15 months in stainless steel tanks at about 14 °C. It is not wood that builds the wine's profile, but the Carricante and its volcanic territory. Organoleptic characteristics Sentiero delle Gerle Etna Bianco presents a straw yellow color with golden reflections. Nose is fine and elegant, with notes of yellow fruit and white flowers, accompanied by the mineral character typical of wines from Etna's volcanic soils. On the palate it is broad and rich, supported by a well-balanced acidity and a pleasant mineral component. The finish is harmonious and persistent. The winery effectively describes it as “the mineral white that smells of orange blossom.” The name “Sentiero delle Gerle” The label recalls Etna's rural tradition and, in particular, the women who reached the vineyards along the paths on the volcano’s slopes, carrying with them gerle, the traditional baskets used for transport. It is this story that is depicted in the particularly recognizable illustration on the label. Label, capsule and level as shown in the photographs.
